A E D A
We'll do it all, everything, on our own.
A E D A
We don't need anything, or anyone.

    A E
If I lay here, if I just lay here
		     D A
Would you lie with me, and just forget the world.

A E D A
I don't quite know how to say how I feel
A E D A
Those three words, I said too much, but not enough.

    A E
If I lay here, if I just lay here
		     D A
Would you lie with me, and just forget the world.
A E
Forget what we're told, before we get too old
	          D A
Show me a garden that's bursting into life.

A E D A
Let's waste time, chasing cars, around our heads.
A E D A
I need your grace to remind me, to find my own.

    A E
If I lay here, if I just lay here
		     D A
Would you lie with me, and just forget the world.
A E
Forget what we're told, before we get too old
	          D A
Show me a garden that's bursting into life.

A E
All that I am, all that I ever was
			        D A
Is here in your perfect eyes, they're all I can see
A E
I don't know where, confused about how as well
			         D A
just know that these things will never change for us at all.

    A E
If I lay here, if I just lay here
		     D A
Would you lie with me, and just forget the world.
         G C
All my bags are packed, I'm ready to go
        G C
I'm standing here outside your door
     G C D
I hate to wake you up to say goodbye
              G C
But the dawn is breakin' it's early morn
       G C
The taxi's waitin' he's blowin' his horn
     G C D
Already I'm so lonesome I could die

Chorus:
      G C G C
So kiss me and smile for me; tell me that you'll wait for me
  G C D
Hold me like you'll never let me go
                G C
'Cause I'm leavin' on a jet plane
    G C G
Don't know when I'll be back again
        C D
Oh, babe, I hate to go....

         G C
There's so many times I've let you down
        G C
So many times I've played around
     G C D
I tell you now, they don't mean a thing
              G C
Every place I go, I'll think of you
       G C
Every song I sing, I'll sing for you
     G C D
When I come back I'll bring your wedding ring

Chorus:
      G C G C
So kiss me and smile for me; tell me that you'll wait for me
  G C D
Hold me like you'll never let me go
                G C
'Cause I'm leavin' on a jet plane
    G C G
Don't know when I'll be back again
        C D
Oh, babe, I hate to go....

         G C
Now the time has come to leave you
        G C
One more time, let me kiss you
     G C D
Then close your eyes, I'll be on my way
              G C
Dream about the days to come
       G C
When I won't have to leave alone
     G C D
About the times I won't have to say

Chorus:
      G C G C
So kiss me and smile for me; tell me that you'll wait for me
  G C D
Hold me like you'll never let me go
                G C
'Cause I'm leavin' on a jet plane
    G C G
Don't know when I'll be back again
        C D
Oh, babe, I hate to go....

                G C
'Cause I'm leavin' on a jet plane
    G C G
Don't know when I'll be back again
        C D
Oh, babe, I hate to go....

A Waltz for a Night

April 8, 2008

I’ve encountered this song from the movie: Before Sunset. In the movie, this song is written by Julie Delpy’s character for Ethan Hawke’s character. It’s simple but romantic. Here’s the tab for the song and below is the lyrics along with a youtube video of the scene where it’s played courtesy of grbomr. You can try to listen and view how she plays and practice by playing along with her to help you learn the song (that’s what I did).

Lyrics

Let me sing you a waltz
Out of nowhere, out of my thoughts
Let me sing you a waltz
About this one night stand

You were for me that night

Everything I always dreamt of in life
But now you’re gone
You are far gone
All the way to your island of rain

It was for you just a one night thing

But you were much more to me
Just so you know
I don’t care what they say
I know what you meant for me that day

I just wanted another try

I just wanted another night

Even if it doesn’t seem quite right
You meant for me much more
Than anyone I’ve met before

One single night with you little Jesse

Is worth a thousand with anybody
I have no bitterness, my sweet
I’ll never forget this one night thing

Even tomorrow, another arms

My heart will stay yours until I die

Let me sing you a waltz
Out of nowhere, out of my blues
Let me sing you a waltz
About this lovely one night stand

Video

I first heard this song in the show Damages and just fell in love with it. It’s sad and beautiful. A guy’s perspective is revealed through the song giving it a refreshing point-of-view. Here’s a link if you want to hear it c/o CaptainObvious: http://hypem.com/track/520079

Lyrics:

I came home in the middle of the night
My father says what you gonna do with your life?
Well, daddy dear, you’re still number one
Oh, girls, they wanna have fun

Oh, girls they…

The phone rings in the middle of the night
My mother says when you gonna live your life right
Well, mother dear, we’re not the fortunate ones
Oh, girls, they wanna have fun

Oh, girls they…

That’s all they really want
Those girls, they wanna have fun

Some boys take a beautiful girl
Only hide her away from the rest of the world
Well, not me, I wanna be the one in the sun
Girls, they wanna have fun

Oh, girls they…

That’s all they really want
Those girls, they wanna have fun

I have climbed the highest mountains
I have run through the fields
Only to be with you
Only to be with you

I have run I have crawled
I have scaled these city walls
Only to be with you
But I still haven’t found
What I’m looking for
But I still haven’t found
What I’m looking for

I have kissed honey lips
Felt the healing in her fingertips
It burned like fire
This burning desire
I have spoke with the tongue of angels
I have held the hand of a devil
It was warm in the night
I was cold as a stone
But I still haven’t found
What I’m looking for
But I still haven’t found
What I’m looking for

I believe in the Kingdom Come
Then all the colors will bleed into one
But yes I’m still running.
You broke the bonds
You loosened the chains
You carried the cross
And my shame
And my shame
You know I believed it
But I still haven’t found
What I’m looking for
But I still haven’t found
What I’m looking for

Waters of March

A stick, a stone,
It’s the end of the road,
It’s the rest of a stump,
It’s a little alone

It’s a sliver of glass,
It is life, it’s the sun,
It is night, it is death,
It’s a trap, it’s a gun

The oak when it blooms,
A fox in the brush,
A knot in the wood,
The song of a thrush

The wood of the wind,
A cliff, a fall,
A scratch, a lump,
It is nothing at all

It’s the wind blowing free,
It’s the end of the slope,
It’s a beam, it’s a void,
It’s a hunch, it’s a hope

And the river bank talks
of the waters of March,
It’s the end of the strain,
The joy in your heart

The foot, the ground,
The flesh and the bone,
The beat of the road,
A slingshot’s stone

A fish, a flash,
A silvery glow,
A fight, a bet,
The range of a bow

The bed of the well,
The end of the line,
The dismay in the face,
It’s a loss, it’s a find

A spear, a spike,
A point, a nail,
A drip, a drop,
The end of the tale

A truckload of bricks
in the soft morning light,
The shot of a gun
in the dead of the night

A mile, a must,
A thrust, a bump,
It’s a girl, it’s a rhyme,
It’s a cold, it’s the mumps

The plan of the house,
The body in bed,
And the car that got stuck,
It’s the mud, it’s the mud

Afloat, adrift,
A flight, a wing,
A hawk, a quail,
The promise of spring

And the riverbank talks
of the waters of March,
It’s the promise of life
It’s the joy in your heart

A stick, a stone,
It’s the end of the road
It’s the rest of a stump,
It’s a little alone

A snake, a stick,
It is John, it is Joe,
It’s a thorn in your hand
and a cut in your toe

A point, a grain,
A bee, a bite,
A blink, a buzzard,
A sudden stroke of night

A pin, a needle,
A sting, a pain,
A snail, a riddle,
A wasp, a stain

A pass in the mountains,
A horse and a mule,
In the distance the shelves
rode three shadows of blue

And the riverbank talks
of the waters of March,
It’s the promise of life
in your heart, in your heart

A stick, a stone,
The end of the road,
The rest of a stump,
A lonesome road

A sliver of glass,
A life, the sun,
A knife, a death,
The end of the run

And the riverbank talks
of the waters of March,
It’s the end of all strain,
It’s the joy in your heart.

Águas de Março by Tom Jobim

Águas de Março

“É pau, é pedra,
é o fim do caminho
É um resto de toco,
é um pouco sozinho

É um caco de vidro,
é a vida, é o sol
É a noite, é a morte,
é o laço, é o anzol

É peroba do campo,
é o nó da madeira
Caingá candeia,
é o matita-pereira

É madeira de vento,
tombo da ribanceira
É o mistério profundo,
é o queira ou não queira

É o vento ventando,
é o fim da ladeira
É a viga, é o vão,
festa da cumeeira

É a chuva chovendo,
é conversa ribeira
Das águas de março,
é o fim da canseira

É o pé, é o chão,
é a marcha estradeira
Passarinho na mão,
pedra de atiradeira

É uma ave no céu,
é uma ave no chão
É um regato, é uma fonte,
é um pedaço de pão

É o fundo do poço,
é o fim do caminho
No rosto o desgosto,
é um pouco sozinho

É um estrepe, é um prego,
é uma ponta, é um ponto
É um pingo pingando,
é uma conta, é um conto

É um peixe, é um gesto,
é uma prata brilhando
É a luz da manhã,
é o tijolo chegando

É a lenha, é o dia,
é o fim da picada
É a garrafa de cana,
o estilhaço na estrada

É o projeto da casa,
é o corpo na cama
É o carro enguiçado,
é a lama, é a lama

É um passo, é uma ponte,
é um sapo, é uma rã
É um resto de mato,
na luz da manhã

São as águas de março
fechando o verão
É a promessa de vida
no teu coração

É uma cobra, é um pau,
é João, é José
É um espinho na mão,
é um corte no pé

São as águas de março
fechando o verão
É a promessa de vida
no teu coração

É pau, é pedra,
é o fim do caminho
É um resto de toco,
é um pouco sozinho

É um passo, é uma ponte,
é um sapo, é uma rã
É um belo horizonte,
é uma febre terçã

São as águas de março
fechando o verão
É a promessa de vida
no teu coração”

Waters of March (English Translation)

It’s stick, it’s stone
It’s the end of the road
It’s a rest of stump
It’s a little alone

It’s a shard of glass
It is life, it’s the sun
It is night, it is death
It’s the snare, it’s the fishhook

It’s peroba of the field
It’s the knot in the wood
Lamp caingá tree
It’s the matita-pereira tree

It’s wind-resistant wood
Falls of the ravine
It’s the profound mystery
It’s the you wish or you don’t

It’s the wind blowing
It’s the end of the slope
It’s the beam, it’s the span
The new roof party

It’s the rain raining
It’s riverbank talk
Of the waters of March
It’s the end of the struggle

It’s the foot, it’s the ground
It’s the walk on the road
Small bird in the hand
A slingshot stone

It’s a bird in the sky
It’s a bird on the ground
It’s a creek, it’s a fountain
It’s a piece of bread

It’s the bottom of the well
It’s the end of the way
In the face the annoyance
It’s a little lonely

It’s a thorn, it’s a nail
It’s a point, it’s a dot
It’s a drop dripping
It’s an tally, it’s a tale

It’s a fish, it’s a gesture
It’s silver shining
It’s the morning’s light
It’s the brick arriving

It’s the firewood, it’s the day
It’s the end of the trail
It’s the bottle of liquor
Splinter in the road

It’s the house’s design
It’s the body in bed
It’s the broken down car
It’s the mud, it’s the mud

It’s a footstep, it’s a bridge
It’s a toad, it’s a frog
It’s a rest of brush
In the morning’s light

They are the waters of March
Closing the summer
It’s the promise of life
In your heart

It’s a snake, it’s a stick
It’s John, it’s Joseph
It’s a thorn in the hand
It’s the cut on the foot

They are the waters of March
Closing the summer
It’s the promise of life
In your heart

It’s stick, it’s stone
It’s the end of the road
It’s a rest of stump
It’s a little alone

It’s a footstep, a bridge
It’s a toad, it’s a frog
It’s a beautiful horizon
It’s a tertian fever

They are the waters of March
Closing the summer
It’s the promise of life
In your heart
